We've always supported local music talent at Radio Hartlepool and we first encountered Elena Larkin when she visited us at the tender age of 12.

Since then she's recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and is now working in music as a vocal tutor as well as continuing to develop as a singer/songwriter.

Elena is through to the semi finals of www.songwritingcontest.co.uk with three of her compositions.

There are nine judges involved including Grammy and Emmy award winners who have worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera.

The prize includes being featured on an album, promoted and showcased to industry contacts, getting a website and working with Stuart Epps (Elton John, Paul Weller, Oasis).

Let's get supporting Elena and wish her the best of luck!

Twelve apprentices who trained in welding are sticking together when it comes to finding work.

After completing a successful programme at Hartlepool Training and Employment Services, they were handpicked by local company, CPD BODIES of Stockton to commence full-time employment.

Brian Goodlad from Hartleppool Training and Employment Services said "It's a tremendous boost for young people when they see there are real jobs out there. Our apprenticeships are not fruitless programmes, there are endless results and this is the perfect example."

Visit their website www.hartlepooltraining.co.uk or drop in and see them at 158 York Road.

This Thursday is a very important day for Hartlepool people. As well as council elections, the MP for Hartlepool will be chosen by the people of the town.

We hosted a  special two hour programme - we invited all prospective parliamentary candidates to give them a chance to explain why you should vote for them.

Thank you to all candidates who took part and to all listeners who contributed questions.
